“Another Life to Live” - 4”h x 4 3/4”w x 3 1/4”d - A small Douglas Fir bowl turned from a salvaged old growth timber and balanced delicately on a river rock. Bowl was turned, hollowed and sandblasted. Outside was dyed black and painted with acrylic paint. Inside was white-washed then finished with silver guilders paste. River rock.
“Entwined Fortuity" is made of a found stone, Madrone, Yellow Cedar and Maple. It is turned, hollowed, carved by rotary carver, power carver and wood burner. It was then dyed black and painted with fluid acrylic paints. The egg is Yellow Cedar. The complete egg is whitened with whitening dye and the outside was then painted. The Golden Nucleus is Maple and it was guilded with gold guilding paste. It is 6 1/4” w x 7 3/4” h.
“Entwined Fortuity" Top Off - Most of my carved and conceptual work is inspired by elements of nature, which provide comfort and an endless source of inspiration. “Entwined Fortuity” combines several of these elements to represent one unified concept. The section at the bottom of the piece is inspired by the texture of ancient stone that surrounded me on a float trip through The Grand Canyon. This section contrasts with both the stone foundation and the section inspired by narrow arching leaves, found in my garden.
“Manaia Cascade” - Madrone vessel, ebony rim - 3 5/8”w x 4 5/8”h. Inspired by a walk on the beach in New Zealand. Lathe turned form for embellishing, carved primarily with a variety of rotary burrs, detailed with wood burning tips, very lightly sandblasted, painted with fluid acrylic paints and finished with waterborne flat lacquer.
286. "The Force of Nature" - 5 3/4"h x 4 3/8"w - Inspired by a float trip through the Grand Canyon. The power of water to erode sandstone, leaving narrow canyons where large boulder become lodged is difficult to imagine.
"Homage to Edvard” - 4 1/4”h x 3 3/8”w - Interestingly, this piece reminds me of “The Scream”. It was inspired by the knots in many dead and decaying trees I’ve seen throughout a lifetime hiking in the woods. Madrone, turned and hollowed, carved with multiple rotary burs, detailed with a wood burner. Acrylic paint and ebony rim.
"Secrets Within" Douglas Fir - 2"h x 3"w - This bowl is a very small piece of an old growth tree estimated to be at least 500 years old. Turned, sandblasted, dyed black, painted and gilded copper inside.
“Natural Splendor” - White Oak bowl and base - 7 3/4” x 8” x 7 1/2”h. The bowl was turned while moderately green and let dry, sandblasted, carved rim and then bleached 10+ times. Finished with waterborne flat lacquer. The base was turned, severely but selectively burned, sandblasted and finished with oil based finish.
“Textural Fantasy” - 4”w x 3 3/4”h x 3 3/4”d - One of my favorite textures is brought to life with waves swirling around this vessel. Madrone vessel, turned and hollowed. Carved with rotary burrs and textured with a mini-gouge. Exterior dyed black and painted with acrylic paint. Interior white-washed and finished with silver guilders paste. Maple rim dyed black with leather dye.
“Altered Presence” - White Oak 2 5/8”h x 4 3/8”w - The direction of the grain changes dramatically as this piece is viewed from different perspectives.

294. "Environmental Fracture" Oak Egg with dyed maple base. 3 1/2" x 2 3/4" including the base. The egg was carved into three spirals, burned, sandblasted and painted. I then burned the recessed line and painted it. All painting was done with fluid acrylic paint. The base was turned, carved, dyed black then painted.
